“True Island Escape”
✮✮✮✮✮
With only a handful of bungalows on this tiny, pristine island, you are guaranteed blissful serenity. Everything is done with simplicity and style in a way that connects you with the local culture. The staff are absolutely wonderful and will do anything for you and always with a smile. The bungalows are spacious with plentiful daybeds and fans (in lieu of aircon). Our bungalow was just meters from the sand. The pool is enormous and deep surrounded by sun lounges and palm trees. The food is an incredible array of local dishes and lots of fresh fruit every day. Our group enjoyed our meals in different pavilions and settings every day. For a quiet island holiday, I thoroughly recommend.

“Incredible Experience Staying at Pulau Joyo - Highly Recommended for Groups with Kids”
✮✮✮✮✮
I can’t do this island justice! As a group of 12 adults and 7 kids this was the perfect holiday for us. The island itself is magical, big enough to provide privacy when you want it and small enough to have a great party as well. The grounds are beautiful, tropical and great for kids to explore. The beaches are clean and soft with some amazing wildlife spotting to entertain the kids. There are free kayaks, paddle boards, fishing and snorkel equipment all included and well maintained.
The accommodation is rustic, spacious and extremely comfortable. Baby cots were provided with full mosquito netting and baby car seats for the transfer between ports. There is no air con in the rooms so be prepared to open all windows and enjoy the sea air during your stay.
The staff worked tirelessly to ensure all of our needs were met and exceeded. The service felt much more personal than any hotel and much more attentive without being intrusive – the team are clearly professionals and I would happily recommend this island retreat to any well-seasoned traveler looking for the perfect mix of relaxation, fantastic food and great fun.

“Island Time”
✮✮✮✮✮
Everything here is in island time, your time. Leave modern life behind. No air con, so-so wifi, nothing to distract you from lazing, beach strolling, swimming, snorkelling, kayaking, eating and drinking. The deep pool and dive board, both fabulous. The wine list is extremely limited so do bring a special bottle each. The beers and spirits are fairly priced given how remote you are. The all inclusive catering is more about sustenance than gourmet awards, but with the odd culinary highlight and overall a magical experience as tables are set in different spots for each meal. But for all the qualifications, I cannot give it anything less than five stars for being a truly unique experience in stunning, authentic accommodation and a million dollar location. Far from the madding crowds, there are only eight private villas with a ninth opening soon. Sunsets are bountiful. And then .. Dine on the beach in front of a blazing bonfire and sometimes even fireworks. Quite the adventure and worth doing once. Relax in island time.

“Paradise Found”
✮✮✮✮✮
We spent an Idyllic weekend on Joyo. The Island is a naturally beautiful little gem. We stayed in Beach Palace 2. All the accommodation is vast and the details in the rooms, such as the traditionally carved wooden doors, are wonderful. It's a very easy journey from Singapore via Ferry (which is cold, take a jumper but an interesting journey out through all the ships), private car ride (which is very interesting if you've never been to Indonesia before-our record was spotting 5 people plus a dog on one motor bike) and then private boat out to the Island. You will feel lke a millionaire and the staff will treat you like one. We were gently ushered to different locations around the Island for lunch and dinner, all with beautiful views. In all our trips to Indonesia we've always found the staff to be charming and friendly and polite but here they have something extra-they're extremely professional and subtle and their service is on another level, nothing is too much trouble for any of them. I think there are only about 6 houses so if you have family visiting or are looking for a quick trip away with friends you can pretty easily take over the whole Island-how often can you do something as amazing as that? We also thought it was pretty good value for money!

“Stunning”
✮✮✮✮✮
I stayed here with a friend in January this year. It was amazing-- the staff are so friendly and attentive, the food delicious and plentiful. This really is a special place which you must experience at least once in your life. The beaches and bungalows are so beautiful and despite being remote and private, there is quite a lot to do on the island and you will never be bored. The internet is surprisingly good and there is plenty of water sports equipment to use. Best of all, it is just a 30 min boat ride from the north side of Bintan. Couldn't get better than this!

“Away From It All”
✮✮✮✮✮
We stayed at a very quiet time where, apart from one other couple, we were the only people staying. For us it was great. The staff were friendly, discreet, and gave good service. The food was not haute cuisine, but was delicious. The facilities were good - as described. The mosquitos were a minor battle, which we won fairly easily. Not much to do, except read books, which suited us. We walked round the shore line of the entire island in 20 minutes. We were offered boat trips, but declined not wishing to be exposed to the full measure of the sun with no shade. The heat and sun were intense. Plenty of dappled shade by the pool, which suited us.

“Nice Place, Perfect Service”
✮✮✮✮✮
This is a nice private island on the east coast of Bintan. Reaching Joyo takes a few hours from Singapore (ferry, car drive, private boat), but everything is well arranged. The island is very small and convenient. There isn't much to do except water sports, but then again, relaxing and reading a good book on the beach or by the pool was well enough for us. The beach palaces are very large, well-finished and clean. If you want to live in a hut/bungalow, but still feel very comfortable, these are perfect. The best part in the island is the stuff. They are extremely helpful and always smiling. However, most of the time you can be in your own peace, and things (like cleaning) are just taken care of without you noticing. Food is good without an exception, and there are plenty of choices every time. It is typically some grilled fish, meat or chicken with an Indonesian touch. It's not fine dining, but that wouldn't even fit the relaxed atmosphere. I can warmly recommend this place for a few days getaway from Singapore!

“Getting Away From It All”
✮✮✮✮☆
Joyo island is a very small island in Indonesia. Getting there from Singapore is not easy, starting with a 2 hours ferry ride, a 1 hour car ride then a 30 minutes trip by small boat. The accommodation is eco friendly, indo style open villas relying on fans to keep cool. The island is very small, taking 15 minutes to walk around the perimeter. There are a variety of water sports available and a volley ball court for those keen for some exercise. Service is outstanding and certainly the highlight of the trip for me. If quiet time away from it all is your thing then Pulau Joyo is well worth the effort.

“Robinson Crusoe Island with incredible friendly helpers!! It has been a fantastic time.”
✮✮✮✮✮
Look, it is not Bora Bora or the Maldives. But what we got on this island has been a fantastic "chill out" with our friends. We have been 4 adults and 3 Kids. They loved it, we loved it. After learning the compromises regarding:
-
no air condition
-
not a 5* Hotel Cuisine or Bar
-
a relative long trip of 5 hours door to door from Singapore
We accepted this and realised, how fantastic nature and friendly people can be. Our kids went out sailing or Fishing with Anton ans Nagato. Our doughter started to "job" in the kitchen. They were very clear, we have to come back. We had the "Hemingway-style" house at the north of the resort and we would take it away. Our kids slipped in one other house and enjoyed their peace.
Bring some good white wine. Accept, that you need after the arrival of the 2 hours Ferry from Singapore another 1,5 hours. ... and just relax, like we did.
Great team and all the best for Ayu, Anton and Nagato !

“Lovely Weekend Getaway”
✮✮✮✮✮
We took a short trip out of Singapore to celebrate my husband's birthday and it was a really nice weekend away thanks to Anton, Nagato and Ayu who spared no effort to make sure that we would have a special time. All the other staff were really friendly and cheerful all the time too. The room (bungalow rather!) was huge and comfortable and food was delicious (we were constantly stuffed because there was so much of it). We hope to come back soon! - WL and M

“A Rustic Slice of Paradise”
✮✮✮✮☆
My friends and I booked the island to celebrate a dear friend's birthday. This is a true island getaway, far removed from everything else.
There is a conscious integration with nature here so don't expect any air conditioning or a bug-free environment (bring your own spray though theirs is pretty potent!) and be prepared to perspire a lot especially in the afternoons when the air gets muggy. Wifi is also intermittent, but in an environment like this, really, that is the last thing you would want to spend all your time on.
That said this was a splendid break, one just needs to go there mentally prepared. The pool and water sports provides you with a good selection of activities to occupy your time with. There are also board games and table tennis if that's your preferred past time.
The highlights for me however were the food and amazing service. This is one place where you will truly never go hungry - don't take my word for it but the quality of cooking here will surprise you. The service staff too are ever helpful and friendly; Anton and Nagato did a wonderful job in making sure we had a pleasant stay.
Getting to the island is a hassle taking us almost 4 hours from Singapore, but if you're after a back to nature experience in a beautiful setting close to Singapore, this is the place to be.

✮✮✮✮✮
We stayed in PJ for six nights, myself, husband and 14 month old. We had the most amazing time in such a beautiful place. It was a bit of a journey to get there, but the staff made the journey as seamless as possible.
We were welcomed by the young, vibrant staff as soon as we arrived and shown our house right on the beach. The water is so clear and blue and the grounds are very pretty and tropical. The food is delicious, there is so much of it you will never feel hungry.
We swam (no jellyfish), kayaked and went fishing. The staff were very keen for us to get involved in activities and make sure we had fun. The girls also babysat our toddler- she loved this and we felt relaxed knowing she was in such safe hands.
The beach house was huge, and was literally feet away from the ocean. The staff/service was excellent, much better then many of the so called five star luxury resorts i have stayed in. I guess being such a small island with limited guests makes the whole experience more personal.
The only negatives were it was very hot, we were lucky and got beautiful sunny weather most days but it did mean that the house was very warm. The fans helped, but it did make it hard on the little one. There were also lots of mosquitos, they ate my poor husband alive!
They also provided a lovely cot, high chair and had lots of beach toys for the little one to play with. The baby/toddler food (feasts!!) they provided was excellent too, and she is a fussy eater.
I would highly recommend PJ. We had a great experience.

“Best Weekend!”
✮✮✮✮✮
Wanted to celebrate a special birthday at a special place and Joyo did not disappoint.
The journey was made easy by being met at the ferry terminal on arrival and being whisked through customs. Then having treats in the car on the way through Bintan. The journey back was just as effortless with all the paperwork done. All we had to do was walk through to the ferry.
Joyo is idyllic, everything a tropical island conjures up. The accommodation is luxuriously rustic. Everything is on hand, plenty of bottles of water, towels at the pool and at the beach, the snorkels and reef shoes were new ( or almost) there was free use of canoes, stand up paddle boards etc.
The birthday meal on the beach was the highlight. The best calamari ever, because the kids caught it, same with the fish! Bonfire and fireworks exceeded all expectations.
The staff, especially Anton, couldn't do enough for us. He even spent hours teaching one son how to play table tennis and this is after taking us out for hours squid fishing!
We will be back as soon as we can and can't recommend it enough.

“A True Oasis”
✮✮✮✮✮
We knew that Pulau Joyo would be secluded. What we hadn't anticipated was that there would be more staff than guests on this idyllic tropical island!
The staff were charming and nothing was too much effort. They went beyond the call of duty to make our wedding anniversary romantic and provided delicious meals in scenic settings.
We paddle boarded, swam, snorkelled, played pool and ping pong and finally just soaked up the endless view from our balcony.
A true gem of an escape and what would be the ideal location for a special birthday / celebratory gathering.

“Pulau Joyo is 'simply' worth a visit.”
✮✮✮✮☆
Pulau Joyo doesn't wow you like a 6-star resort. Nothing there is fancy. But it is a very impressive place. The staff are excellent. The food is very good, and they cater to your requests, such as for vegan food. The rooms are huge and the beds are comfy. They really seem to have thought things through. For instance, they have rubber boots in many sizes so that people can walk in the sea, despite the stones, etc. on the sea bed. My only disappointment was that the swimming wasn't great because the water level was low; plus, there were some jellyfish. I swam nonetheless. They also have other activities, such as kayaking and ping pong. I really want to go back.

“Joyo Joy”
✮✮✮✮✮
I went there in early July 2015, with 20+ friends and three of us celebrating our birthday. We arrived on Friday afternoon and spent the next 48 hours in a blissful retreat that catered to our every desire and made for a fantastic birthday experience. From the delicious food to the affable and attentive staff, the sandy beach and comfortable surroundings, Joyo managed to deliver on several fronts, keeping almost 30 hedonistic hellions engaged, enthused and entertained.
Joyo manages to appease both those looking for a quiet retreat and others looking to embrace their passion for carousing. I have no doubt the fact that we were able to secure the island for ourselves took the experience to another level but I would gladly go back there with a smaller party and share the amenities. I would highly recommend Joyo to anyone considering this as a destination and look forward to returning for another memorable trip.

“Exceeded Every One of Expectations”
✮✮✮✮✮
A beautiful island, very courteous staff, great accommodation, variety of activities, delicious authentic Indonesian meals - I couldn't ask for more from a private island rental. We traveled as 28 for a birthday celebration in three separate batches and I just don't think we'll ever be able to top the weekend we spent on Joyo (even with it raining a morning or two). We had the most Joyo-us time ;) and would come back in a heartbeat.
Accommodation is 6 spacious palaces so with a group of 28 it was a "comfy" set-up with 4 or 6 people to a palace - but there was plenty of comfy corners for you to pass out + 2 bale houses which were MORE than adequate for couples who want privacy from the group. Java palaces are right on the beach front so super breezy and nice whereas the beach palaces were raised so had a nice view of the sea and hammocks just below. Meal times were always together and set up in different locations and the bonfire, cake + fireworks was a nice treat for the last night.
They supplied copious amounts of water and mosquito repellent all over the island and fed us yummy little snacks in between meals after we exhausted ourselves paddle boarding and kayaking around the island, I don't think there was anything we wanted that they hadn't considered: massages, fishing trip, snorkel trip, even fresh coconuts from the tree when we requested! (only they didn't have plastic cups for beer pong and flip cup, but you definitely couldn't fault them there!). We only hope we didn't exhaust the team too much with our energetic group of friends! The journey there and back was just fine too - they even gave us refreshments and beers.
The value for what you get is totally worth it if you consider a weekend away from Singapore in Bali, Rawa or Phuket where you're not on your own private island and spend roughly the same. Don't hesitate. Just book it :)

“Blissful Stay on a Paradise Island”
✮✮✮✮✮
Great location for honeymooners. Very peaceful and quiet. The staff go to a lot of trouble to change the lunch and dinner venue individually for couples/families/friends each time, making it quite special and private. The last evening all the guests had dinner together on the beach, accompanied by a bonfire and fireworks. The food was plentiful and wholesome although the choice at breakfast was a bit modest. The beach palace we stayed in was lovely, spacious and with all the creature comforts one needs. We had a nice breeze during the night which ensured that we slept well. All the transportation arrangements and the fast track handling of immigration worked out really well, except that the return trip by ferry to Singapore was very uncomfortable. The ferry was jam-packed so it was a scramble to get a seat and the air-conditioning (partly patched together with tape) clearly could not cope, so it felt like sitting in a sweat bath for 2 hours. This has nothing to do with Pulau Joyo of course but it is worth them and other tour operators complaining as it is quite a sobering return after a wonderful weekend. Thanks again to all the friendly and helpful staff who made our stay a very relaxing and enjoyable one.
Room Tip: choose your 'palace' in line with the season and hence wind direction for cooling effect at night.

My brother hired the island resort for a special birthday and anniversary celebration for 20 of us and we travelled from the UK via Singapore and Bintan to a little piece of heaven. You are met on the beach with refreshments and after that your every whim is catered for by a wonderful staff who seem to be able to read your mind. They are friendly unobtrusive but always appear when you may need anything. The food was lovely and the two celebration dinners were amazing. There were plenty of activities for beach kayaks paddle boards snorkels and pool area is stunning. Accommodation blended beautifully with the setting would go back there in a flash a very very special place.
Room Tip: The accommodation is open plan; no separate bedrooms.

I spent four nights over Christmas this year with my husband and daughter and we had an amazing Christmas on the Island. Everything was fabulous. The staff from my first e-mail to when we stepped aboard the boat to leave were so professional and friendly it made the whole trip so much easier to organise and once we got there we were so well looked after and nothing was ever a problem. It's a long time since I have been so well looked after and I travel a lot. The accommodation on the Island is unique and is immaculate as is the pool which my daughter had to herself for most of our stay. The food served is delicious and very varied. “Perfect for a weekend getaway with friends from Singapore”
✮✮✮✮✮
Just the experience of being on your own private island was amazing! The service staff were just so friendly and attentive to detail. They were always available whilst being discreet and giving you the right amount of privacy. The food was very good and having dinner on the beach was a real highlight! The fireworks were very special!
Overall this is the perfect place to rent out with friends for an amazing weekend of relaxing by a beautiful pool. It is great how close to Singapore the Island is yet it is just so secluded. Although the transfer does involve a ferry, car and boat the staff make it seamless and guide you through immigration to reduce waiting times as much as possible. The massages are also amazing - although do let the staff know in advance as the therapists need to be bought to the Island.
The accommodation was very beautiful, with spacious rooms and great views. Although all huts are stunning I would recommend the Java huts - these are the most secluded and have an amazing verandah that faces out onto the beach - perfect for private sunset drinks or massages!
I do not recommend Joyo for people wanting to go snorkeling or diving. Although ok to swim in we did see a very large jellyfish with long tentacles when we were snorkeling - staff did assure us this only happened a couple of days a year and not to worry. I guess we were just unlucky. We did have a very fun Kayak to the neighbouring Island and there are stand-up paddle boards and small sail boats - so no shortage of water activities!
We loved Joyo and would highly recommend it!

Everything about the Joyo - the location, accommodation, beauty, activities, food, service, lovely staff- absolutely exceeded our expectations.
The island is completely remote - 2 hr ferry from Singapore, 1 hr drive through the jungles of Bintan and 30min speedboat trip later, the paradise at the end is well worth the adventure journey.

We stayed in Joyo for 3 nights. The island itself is exceptionally beautiful, clean and well maintained. I probably had one of the best Indonesian foods during my stay in Joyo which I was at first felt uneasy because it was preset.
Service quality is one of the best you can have in Asia, it was so personalized and everybody is so nice that you felt like you are at home. We stayed in many resorts and we really think Joyo is very different than the rest. they only have 6 houses which made the island always quiet, perfect for getaways. “Quiet and Peaceful!”
✮✮✮✮✮
If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is the place!
The accommodation is rustic but adequate. There is no air conditioning, just natural wind and fans for cooling if it gets too hot! Meals were simple homecooked indonesian style food and they usually serve more than we can finish. There are water activities but I did not get to make use of them except for snorkeling just off the beach (ask the staff for the best location), which was decent. You can also request the staff to arrange for massage during your stay. Staff was friendly and I have to thank Anton for taking good care of us when we were there.
If you are there for a celebration, I highly recommend that you request a fireworks package to complete the celebration.
Overall, a relaxing experience and a short getaway from the busy city life! Best to do at least 3 nights to fully relax and enjoy because it takes about 4 hours one-way from Singapore (that's the only negative!)

Pulau Joyo is amazing and wonderful. We had a very smooth journey to Pulau Joyo which I wasn't really looking forward to. We were greeted by so many people which was nice, everyone is so friendly. The beach huts are amazing, you are obviously on an island so if you don't like bugs do not come here. I do not particularly like them but I didn't let it bother me. A magical island with only eight houses and wonderful staff who ensure your stay is perfect. We will definitely be returning to this paradise. The vegetation and bird life are beautiful and each location presents another idyllic view. Having stayed in many resorts in Asia during the past forty years, Pulau Joyo rates in our family as the very best! Thank you to the marvellous team on Pulau Joyo and to the creator of this magical place.

From the time we stepped onto Tanjung Pinang, Dedy and Joshua are there to make sure we passed the customs smoothly and then make our way to the private jetty (along with some small snacks-which by the way are delicious!). Upon arrival, the whole team at Joyo island is there to welcome us. The service is just excellent. In short, everyone on the island is proactive and they provide you with the service before you can ask for it. Weiwei and the other young man in charge( sorry didn't get to get your name!) are meticulous with taking care of us. The island itself is so private that one can only hear the waves. I find myself snorkeling near the beach with only the endless horizon and no one else is there. I find myself well-nourished with the sumptuous meals. And not forgetting the trouble the team go to to make our dinners so romantic. They prepared our dinner by the beach, on carefully carved sand in the shape of a heart, under the pitch black starry sky and finally a bonfire. Truly rejuvenating and the solace is comfortable to deal with. Thank you everyone at Joyo island who have made our trip a totally unforgettable one!

“Close to Singapore, Yet Soooo Far Away”
✮✮✮✮✮
We just spent what was most probably the most amazing and relaxing beach holiday ever. Whilst the admittedly steep price tag and the rather inconvenient way to get there might put you off initially, let me assure you that both are more than worth it! Once you reach Tanjung Pinang, Deddy and his team will take care of you and until you reach the island, it is totally seemless and hassle free. The island itself is amazing, the grounds clean and well maintained, the beach super clean and always inviting for a stroll. The house (we stayed in one of the Java houses, highly recommended) was clean, nicely setup with one double bed and two single beds for the kids, ensuite shower with all amenities provided and best of all, it is literally on the beach.
Thanks to its location, the island enjoys a nice, constant breeze which made the days really enjoyable and the nights comfortably cool. We spent our days snorkelling, kayaking, stand-up padelling, collecting shells, finding hermit crabs, sailing (with little success though), playing volleyball, table tennis, billiard and swimming in the nice pool and so on...
However, the best part of it was the service provided by the fantastic staff. Nothing was too much to ask for and especially meal times were an absolute highlight. Essentially every lunch and dinner was setup at a different location, with the highlights being the two dinners at the beach, one including a bonfire and fireworks, the other being setup right in front of our house.
All in all, a great place to unwind, relax and get that "Robinson Crusoe" feeling you always wanted.

“Fantastic Weekend Away, a Beautiful Island All to Yourself”
✮✮✮✮✮
Recently spent a weekend on the beautiful private island that is Pulau Joyo. Dedy Goh (who I met from a trip to Pulau Pangkil some years ago) was, as usual, very helpful with all the arrangements knew a few of us from our Pangkil trip - its always nice to be greeted by a smiling familiar face! The stay is just effortless and the staff on the island honestly cannot do enough to help, we were exceptionally well looked after. We had some fantastic meals including a beautiful dinner on the beach one night. Accommodation is basic and as expected of island life! But clean, comfortable and authentic - we were in a bale on the beach ! There is everything you need; from a very well stocked bar, watersports equipment, wifi, sound system, beautiful pool and sun loungers, an abundance of fresh fluffy towels, delicious freshly cooked meals three times a day, afternoon tea, massages. Cannot recommend highly enough - go !

“Great Accommodation, Stunning Views”
✮✮✮✮✮
I can´t get more private than Pulau Joyo. This tiny island in Indonesia is one of the best places I have never been. The rooms are located across the island and each one of them offers you the most amazing views. I will definitely go back when I have the opportunity.

“Beautiful Resort, Very Peaceful and Relaxing Weekend”
✮✮✮✮✮
This is beautiful resort and the standard of the facilities, the rooms, public areas, pool area, gardens and layout of the island were all first class. We really enjoyed the simple, family style Indonesian cooking and were particularly impressed by the fresh fruit and vegetables. The setting is idyllic, it’s a real ‘get away from it all’ place. Fantastic once we arrived but it is a bit of a trek from Singapore. Total journey time was 5 hours including waiting time for ferries and immigration plus transfer by car and private boat. We only stayed 2 nights and it was too short given the hassle involved in getting there. Book for longer and really enjoy the remote location.
One small point was that we found the service a bit unprofessional. There were plenty of staff who were friendly and helpful once you tracked them down, but they were difficult to find and often seemed to be hiding from guests. One member of staff should always be available to serve guests at the pool and bar area during the day and remain more visible during mealtimes rather than just serving the food and disappearing. It would maximise revenue for the owner as well. Because we found the staff so hard to track down we spent far fewer on drinks than we otherwise would have done!

“Also Has a Great Reef Around the Island”
✮✮✮✮✮
I read all of the review below and it's hard to add anything more except to say that in addition to being a beautiful slice of paradise a stone's throw from Singapore, this place also has a wonderful reef surrounding the island. We saw a stingray, a very small shark, heaps of fish, some nice soft and hard coral and few giant clams. Contrary to one of the other reviews, we found the food perfect for the setting with a nice mix of children's options as well as interesting adult selections like chili crab and local fish options. The only complaint we had is that the travel time from sing to the island is definitely four hours plus plus with our trip over taking almost five hours due to slow immigration in Bintan. It would be nice if this could be made more efficient. It's also a perfect place for kids 2 to 12. I'm not sure if teens would find enough to do here.

“Private Paradise”
✮✮✮✮✮
We spent 3D2N at this very private island. The 1st night, there were total of 3 couples and 2nd night left 2 couples on the island. Bright & sunny in the day and breezy & starry at night. Meals were arranged in different parts of the island for guests to enjoy different views. Really appreciate the effort by the team to decorate and set-up the dining tables everyday. Great thanks for Santos and staff at the island for making our stay as comfortable as can it. We tried snorkelling, kayaking, stand-up paddle, collected seashells...Truly enjoyed a relaxing short getaway.

“Utterly Amazing and Idyllic”
✮✮✮✮✮
I've just spent 4 days at Pulau Joyo with a group of 13 other friends to celebrate a friend's major birthday - they hired the island just for us lot. The transfers were great, the staff were incredibly helpful and couldn't do enough for us in terms of laying on refreshments on the journey and everything. The accomodation was beautiful and luxurious, the grounds were beautiful and the food was great and varied - they even catered for our Coeliac friend. I agree that Breakfast wasn't as fab as the other meals, but that was probably because I was usually very hungover for breakfast! On the whole though, the food was delicious and varied and the Barbecue on the beach with the candles, and then the bonfire and stargazing was absolutely incredible. I've never had a holiday like it, the weather was a little stormy, but it was such a relaxing and peaceful place, it didn't really matter. I would totally recommend it to anyone. Thank you so much to Santo and his team for making this a once in a lifetime holiday, it was just perfect - going back to grimy Sheffield in the UK is a big come down.

“A Million Miles Away”
✮✮✮✮✮
My husband and I just spent the weekend at Palau Joyo to escape the city for a couple of days. This absolutely did the job! I was craving some clear water and nice beaches and this delivered. The transfers to the island were all really smooth and we were there in the 3 hours like the website says. We then spent all of Saturday snorkelling, SUPing and Kayaking. The reef was beautiful. The service is was amazing and very attentive compared to other stays I have had in Indonesia. The facilities are simple but very comfortable and I love the food. The gardens are absolutely beautiful and it's a credit to the staff who maintain them so well. However you should be aware that you are paying 5 star prices and the facilities are simple. This was fine for us but I think things like the breakfast may be improved. We would definitely go back and I would love to book it out for a group next time. Well done to the team there!!

“Amazing Island Retreat!”
✮✮✮✮✮
We just spent a long weekend on awesome Pulau Joyo and absolutely loved every single second! The island is small but a real treasure!
As we were the only guests for the first 2 days we felt like royalty and got pampered by the staff! This didn't stop after 4 other guests arrived...all the employees are very friendly, helpful and nice!
All the buildings are decorated and set up with much love for the detail. You almost feel like at home and there are a lot of very cozy spots to enjoy your time.
The food is real Indonesian, for every meal you get a set menu with a wide selection of meat, sea food, fish, vegetables, salad, rice, pasta etc., very yummie! Beside the regular meals we got treated with a different snack around 4 pm every day! Everything always freshly cooked or baked!
We had a fantastic time reading at the pool, sailing, kayaking, swimming, building sand castles, playing table tennis and billiard and trying the standing paddles! And the typical Java massage we can only highly recommend!!!
A perfect place to have a relaxing and laid-back time at an amazing place! We will be back for sure!
Room Tip: the Java houses are very nice, directly at the beach, very quiet and spacious

“Castaway Island”
✮✮✮✮✮
Really the perfect 4 day holiday. Delicious Indonesian food, beautiful beach, friendly staff, lovely accommodations. We spend our days collecting sea shells, kayaking, swimming, snorkelling, playing badminton and eating. We were a family of 6 (2 grandparents, 2 parents, 2 children- ages 7 & 9) and we all enjoyed our stay. (A big bonus is there are hardly any mosquitos and no sand flies).
The website is a true representation of the island. Highly recommended. The only area for improvement would be the wi-fi. The wi-fi was not accessible from our villas (Treehouse 1 & 2) and was unreliable even from the lodge. My advise is leave your technology at home and enjoy your stay.
Room Tip: We stayed in Tree House 1 & 2 which was a great choice for two families travelling together.

“One of My Favorite Places of All Time”
✮✮✮✮✮
Its taken me 6 months to write this review simply because I didn't know if I wanted to share the secret. I live in Singapore, and to have this piece of heaven so close to us is unfathomable! We travelled with friends to Joyo and when we arrived in the boat, were met by the whole team on the beach. Our jaws dropped as we looked around our enormous huts, and the complex more generally. Stunning doesn't do this place justice. Accommodation was wonderful and we slept like babies. The food comes how, when and where you want - and was brilliant, simple Indonesian fare. The staff are gorgeous and very friendly. We kayaked around the island, with flying fish, and its so tiny but perfectly formed. I will return for sure. Worth every single (expensive) penny. Amazing.

“Superb!”
✮✮✮✮✮
We felt like royalty. Accommodation is first class as long as you favour the rustic over precision. Check the website - it's pretty much identical in real life which can be a rarity! People: extremely friendly. Food: spectacular. Island: your own little paradise. Would have taken us about 20mins to canoe round were we not chasing dolphins. Highly recommended.
Negatives (and we're really nitpicking here): pipe a bit of an eyesore on main part of beach even being sand-coloured. That's pretty much it. Would we go back? Yes

“Our Very Own Desert Island”
✮✮✮✮✮
In November last year, my wife and I were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to spend an idyllic weekend on the Indonesian Island of Joyo. As our party consisted of 6 families, we literally had the island to ourselves, looked after by polite, friendly and highly efficient staff. The accommodation was superb, six beautiful beach villas, the food and refreshments were of a very high standard and every evening was a new experience, dining by the pool and on the beach!!! I would recommend Pulau Joyo to anyone, and if you are able to "take over" the whole island as we did, it's a wonderful group experience, perfect for adults and children alike!!!!

My husband and I stayed here in September 2012 for five days and we had the best time. We stayed in the Rembang hut and it was magnificent. The food is delicious and the staff is lovely. “Lovely Island”
✮✮✮✮✮
We spent 4 days at Pulau Joyo over July 2012 holidays with 2 of our children. I have no idea what the reviewer who wrote "Avoid" was talking about. The accommodation was stunning, the food was delicious (particularly when you request the local Indonesian food) and they catered for small children as well as adults, the wine corkage charge was very reasonable and the staff were helpful and could be found whenever you needed them. The trip to the island was fine. It was no longer or more difficult than any of the other islands off Bintan or Malaysia that are accessible from Singapore. I had 2 different massage ladies who were both excellent. As an aside, I have no idea who the owners of the island are so this is an unsolicited review.

“A Paradise, Few Hours Away From Busy Singapore”
✮✮✮✮✮
What a place! The island is beautiful with its nature, lush forest, white sands, blue water and coral barrier... everything is so colorful.
The 6 wood-made villas are perfectly located in 3 different corners of the island, enjoying the view of both the tropical forest and the indonesian sea. We were in the Beach House II: interiors are well designed, the beds very comfortable and the bathroom very spacious.
The staff is great: everybody's very kind and friendly... discretely there should you need something.
The food has been a nice experience too: every meal different from the previous and each dish very well prepared.
There is no Spa, but they arranged for a masseuse to come from Bintan and stay in the island during our stay. She was very good and her massage the perfect end of a magic day in Joyo.
Yes, it took 3 hours to get there from Singapore, but the travel will surely not stop us to visit them again!

“The Secret Island”
✮✮✮✮✮
I feel a bit jealous sharing this experience, as if this charming, tiny island could stay our secret. Tired from the big, crowded hotels one can find around Asia, we were looking for some private place to spend a long weekend with our children. Lucky we were to be the only guests and it was amazing.
First, it is exclusive to occupy such a small place, surrounded by the the sea only. One can circle the island in twenty minutes, including the time for gathering seashells and enjoying the views. The staff were there whenever we needed them and discreet enough to leave us with the feeling that we were all alone on the island.
Design-wise, every corner of Joyo is joy. The open, wooden villas look like grown form the palm trees. The luxury is in aesthetics, high ceilings, wooden bathrooms, wind-blown white bed curtains, air and greenery.
Food is excellent - Asian fusion, I would say. We were entertained finding our table laid at a different place around the island every time. The pool and the common area are also very nice - something like your open-air living room with pool, full bar and occasional snacks.
The place is perfect to go with your 10-15 best friends and book it all. Also good for couples and families.

I had an extremely enjoyable experience at pulau joyo. The staff were more than helpful and the food cooked every day was delicious and hearty. “Luxurious Idyllic Getaway”
✮✮✮✮✮
Though it take about 3 hrs to get there from Singapore (1 hr ferry ride + 1.5 hr by car across bintan island followed by 0.5 hr speed boat ride), the journey was worth it!
You will reach a small semi-private island with secluded entrance that leads to 6 individual huts that are raised on stilts. Each hut is approximately the size a small apartment and all of them has a seaview. Each hut has 2 double beds and is filled with rustic decorations. 2 out of the 6 huts are larger and can accomodate 4 more couches which double up as single beds. There is no air-conditioners simply because the moment you open the windows, the sea breeze gushes into the room. The hotel manager says if you are lucky, you can even see dolphins swimming at a distance.
The maximum number of people allowed to stay on the island at any point of time is 35. Hence, you can relax and enjoy the peace and tranquility the surrounding brings as you chill out at the swimming pool.
Food served was okay, with most of the dishes prepared to suit the customers' palate with a local touch.
Kayaks, snorkeling equipment are available free of charge and you can do these activities any time you want.
Service was great! The staff will always greet with a smile!
Overall, great getaway for families and groups of friends!

Sleeping in a 100-year old teak bungalow that opens up to your very own private beach with the wind billowing through the hut every minute of the day makes for a dream vacation. With great food, great unobtrusive service, you get to plan your day doing whatever you want - swimming, snorkeling, kayaking, hiking - or whatever you don't want! A wonderful experience for the whole family. PS: Do get all your family and friends together and spend a wonderful 3-day event in this private getaway island. The best vacation in years!
